Air, rain and sunshine: AEMET normals for Ibiza airport, 1981-2010. Sea: multi-year satellite averages from seatemperature.org (NOAA data).

The chart and table above are the long-term averages for Ibiza airport, which sits in the same municipality as most of the coves in this guide. Air temperature, rain days and sunshine come from AEMET, Spain’s state weather agency, for 1981 to 2010, the most recent period it publishes for the station. Sea temperatures are multi-year satellite averages. Together they answer the question this page is for: when is the Ibiza weather right for a beach day, and when will you have the cove to yourself?

Ibiza weather by month, in short

January to March. Days of 16 to 18 °C, five or so rain days a month and a sea of about 14 °C. The coves are empty, the beach bars mostly shut, and the coastal path from Port des Torrent to Cala Comte is at its best for walking.

April and May. Highs of 20 to 23 °C, only three or four rain days a month, and a sea warming from 16 to 19 °C. The first beach clubs open: in 2026 Cala Bassa’s beach bar opened in March and its main restaurant in late April. Swimming in May is fresh but possible on a sunny afternoon.

June. About 27 °C by day, almost no rain, and close to 300 hours of sunshine. The sea reaches 22 to 23 °C by the end of the month. It is long, light and warm, and the beaches are lively without being full. One of the two best months.

July and August. The peak: highs of 30 °C, nights that stay above 21 °C, a sea of 25 to 26 °C and the most crowded coves of the year. The small beaches fill by mid-morning, parking at Cala Bassa and Cala Comte is the hard part, and the sunset crowds are at their biggest.

September. Still 28 °C by day with the sea at its second-warmest, about 25 °C, but the crowds thin after the first week. Rain returns: AEMET’s averages give about 57 mm, as much as October or November. The other of the two best months.

October. About 24 °C by day and a sea still near 23 °C, warmer than early June. The Ibiza weather in October is the island’s best-kept secret for a beach week: the light is low and golden, the sunset comes early enough for an evening swim before dinner, and some beach clubs stay open into the month.

November and December. Highs of 17 to 20 °C, more rain, a sea cooling from 20 to 17 °C. Bright days are still common, and the west coast sunset, now before 18:00, is the quietest of the year.

When the coves are quietest

The coves in this guide are among the most visited on the island, and Cala Bassa and Cala Comte in particular are full in July and August. The pattern to use:

  • Arrive before 10:30 or after 17:00 in high season.
  • Pick late May, June or the second half of September for warm water without the queue.
  • Choose Cala Tarida when the smaller coves are busy; its size absorbs the crowd.

A note on the numbers

Averages hide individual years. A September storm can flatten the beach umbrellas for a day, and a still week in May can feel like July. The 7-day forecast shows the coming week’s waves, wind and sea temperature for each cove. The sunset calculator gives the exact time on your dates.

The sea lags the air by about a month. That is why the water in October is warmer than in June, even though the June days are hotter. If swimming matters more to you than sunbathing, it is the single most useful thing on this page.

Questions people ask

What is the Ibiza weather like in October?

Mild and still good for the beach. AEMET's long-term averages give days of about 24 °C and nights of about 16.5 °C, with around 5 to 6 rain days in the month. The sea is still about 23 °C, warmer than in early June.

What is the best month to visit Ibiza for the beach?

June and September. The sea is 22 to 25 °C, the days are long, and the coves are busy rather than packed. July and August are the hottest and most crowded months.

Is the sea warm enough to swim in Ibiza in May?

Just about. The average sea temperature in May is around 19 °C, which most people find fresh but swimmable on a sunny day. By late June it reaches about 22 to 23 °C.

What is Ibiza weather like in winter?

Mild: day highs of 15 to 17 °C from December to February and around 5 rain days a month. The sea falls to about 14 to 15 °C, the beach bars close, and the coves are left to walkers.
