Cala Tarida is where you go when the smaller coves are full. The bay curves in a wide U, the sand is fine and soft, and the water stays shallow far enough out that children can play in it without anyone worrying. Two small rocky islets sit right in the middle of the beach, splitting it into separate bathing areas that each feel like a cove of their own.
The Govern Balear’s tourism site puts the main beach at about 260 metres long and 40 deep. Other guides give much larger figures because they count the whole bay with its side coves. Cala Tarida, Ibiza, is the largest beach on the stretch covered by this guide, and the one that copes best with a busy August day.
The beach
The seabed is mostly sand with a few rocky areas, sloping so gently that you can wade a long way out. Sant Josep council lists sunbed and umbrella rental, toilets, a lifeguard in high season only, and ramp access. An island guide adds an amphibious wheelchair.
Halfway along there is a sandy bank where small motorboats come in to take on passengers. In summer, boats from Sant Antoni harbour stop here, and there is a diving club and pedal-boat rental. If you want quiet, walk to either end of the bay.
Cala Tarida beach clubs and restaurants
Cotton Beach Club sits on the rocks a few metres from the sand, and the bay has several other beach restaurants. Island guides recommend them for an early dinner as the light goes. This part of the coast faces the open sea to the west, so the evenings are long and bright.
The west-coast beach clubs guide has the wider picture, from Port des Torrent down to here.
Getting to Cala Tarida
Bus. In summer 2026 the A1 and U1 lines serve the beach, and the new A14 links it to Platges de Comte, Cala Bassa and Sant Josep. A Comte-to-Tarida beach day is now possible without a car.
Car and Cala Tarida parking. It is about 12 km and 20 minutes from Sant Antoni, or 23 km from the airport. There are spaces and street parking at both ends of the bay, which island guides say are hard to find in high season.
Boat. Summer boats from Sant Antoni harbour stop at the beach.
Taxi. Use the taxi estimator for a fare range from the airport, Ibiza Town or Sant Antoni.
Cala Tarida or the smaller coves?
If you have children, or friends who want to swim rather than snorkel, Cala Tarida is the easiest choice on this coast. It has the most space, the most gradual entry, and the most choice of food. It is weaker for snorkelling than Cala Comte and has less natural shade than Cala Bassa, where junipers grow down to the sand.
The beach comparison lines all five coves up side by side and lets you filter for sunset views, families or snorkelling. Before you set off, check the live panel at the top of this page for wind and waves at the bay.
Questions people ask
How do I get to Cala Tarida by bus?
In summer 2026 lines A1 and U1 serve Cala Tarida, and the new A14 connects it with Platges de Comte, Cala Bassa and Sant Josep. Check the operator's timetable on the day.
Is there parking at Cala Tarida?
There are parking spaces and street parking at both ends of the bay, but in high season they are hard to find. Arrive before 10:30 or take the bus.
Is Cala Tarida good for families?
Yes. The sand slopes very gently into the water, there are several separate bathing areas, and the bay is large enough that it rarely feels as packed as the smaller coves. A lifeguard works in high season.
Is Cala Tarida crowded?
It is busy in summer, but because the bay is so large island guides note it seldom gets as crowded as Cala Bassa or Cala Comte.
